Following His Voice, Even When It’s Hard

Stepping into the unknown—learning to follow His voice even when our hearts long for a home and being with family.

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. (Proverbs 3:5 AMPC)

Hi Friend,

Well, we have said goodbye to trailer life, for we sold our fifth-wheel and traded our truck for a Kia Sportage while we were in Oregon.

There are seasons when the Lord may ask us to let go of what’s familiar and reach for the unknown. In 2022, I heard the Lord say, Be ready at my beck and call. Sell your home, get a fifth-wheel, and be ready to go wherever I lead you. For three years after that, we lived in our fifth-wheel, staying first in Oregon and then in Florida. Recently, we felt led to sell our fifth-wheel and head back to Texas, beginning a new chapter.

Now that we are heading back to Texas, we don’t know for sure what it will look like or how long we will be there, but we will keep moving forward, trusting the Lord to lead.

It’s not easy or comfortable. I don’t want to be separate from my kids and granddaughters. My dream is to have a family compound on 100 acres with my kids and grandkids. I also want to see my parents and siblings more. They all live on the West Coast, and Joe’s family lives on the East Coast.

This journey isn’t about having all the answers and comfort but about walking in obedience to His leading.  He knows all things, and it’s about us leaning into trusting Him and keeping our hands in His hands. It’s about trusting Him with our hearts and desires, and with the safety and hearts of our children and grandchildren.

The journey the Lord leads us can be exciting when we choose to rely on Him and see where He takes us.  He only wants the best, and His plans are always better than our plans.  He knows the heart desires we have, and I have seen testimonies of those who gave up everything they ever wanted to do or have and walked in obedience to the Lord’s leading, and the Lord restored their heart’s desires.

Is there something the Lord is asking you to step out into, even if it feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar? How might saying yes to Him lead you to new growth or blessing?

What does the next few weeks look like for us?

As I am writing this we are heading to Idaho from Redmond, Oregon. We stayed with my son and his family for two weeks after moving out of the trailer, and in Central Oregon to visit with my parents. Now heading to Idaho to see one of my brothers, a sister, and a dear friend with whom I was in ministry twenty years ago.  Then we will head to Las Vegas to see another brother, then head to Branson, MO, for a week before heading to Texas.

We will stay in an Airbnb in Godley, Texas, for a month while we receive clarity from the Lord about what to do next. Joe and i both felt that the Lord would show us our next step when we arrive in Texas.

God is good all the time.

He knows the beginning to the end and only wants great things for His children, and He hears their hearts cry.  He hears my heart cry to follow Him and do what He asks, but also my mama’s heart to be near her kids.  He hears my son’s heart for his mama to be close to his children.

Whatever your heart cries, the Lord hears, and He knows, and He has a perfect plan for your life. Choose to follow it no matter what.

I haven’t written since Easter because I’ve been busy, focusing on being with my kids and grandkids.  I should be writing more again in the next few weeks.

Keep pursuing His heart in the quiet places. Keep living the story He lovingly penned. Keep running your race — steady, surrendered, and strong.

I haven’t arrived. I am still growing, still surrendering. But I run with passion toward His purpose — and lI would love for us to keep pursuing His heart and living the story He’s written—together.
