The danger of becoming mediocre in your spiritual walk.
Hi Friend,
How are you doing?
I have come to realize the danger of becoming mediocre in our spiritual walk with the Lord.
There was a time in my life when I was on fire for the Lord, finding every moment I could to sit in His presence and have a deep, intimate communion with Him. Through those times, it strengthened my spirit, and I am more in tune with the voice of the Holy Spirit, feel like I am lining myself up with the Lord, and am walking closer to Him and in the know of what is going on in the Spiritual realm. I also feel like I am a step ahead of the enemy and am following the leading of the Holy Spirit to pray about something specific, and it has brought protection upon the family.
I have also been in a mediocre state, where, yes, I acknowledge the Lord and love Him, but I am not pursuing Him as I have in the past. I have found myself distant from Him and no longer hearing the Holy Spirit’s voice like I used to, and have been side-wipped by unexpected things because I wasn’t hearing the Holy Spirit’s warnings or preparing.
I think about the scripture in Revelation where the Lord says, I want you to be either hot or cold, not lukewarm, and spewed out of His mouth.”
There are a lot of us Christians who have settled for a mediocre life spiritually and wonder why our lives are not experiencing the full blessings of the Lord, and feel like they are getting beaten up by the enemy at every turn.
When we choose to become and stay hot for the Lord, we put ourselves ahead of the enemy’s plans and any roadblocks he sets; we can plow through them, as Jesus did in the storm, by rebuking them.
I am embarrassed by how much I have become mediocre in my walk with the Lord. I read my Bible and worship Him, but it’s not the deep, intimate relationship I was experiencing with Him. I have come to a place of repentance, which means making that 180-degree turn to change and pursue His Heart in an intimate way.
I know others have made excuses, saying that they don’t have time. I know when I was pursuing Him with all my heart, I found time. There were times when my kids were little that I spent time on the floor, face down, seeking Him after everyone was in bed for the night. Or I would have my headphones on, playing music not to disturb anyone, and just worship Him in my heart through the imagination of being with Him.
If it’s something we really want, we find the time no matter what.
Another reason we become mediocre in our walk with the Lord is that we have put other things first in our lives, which takes time from being with Him. Yes, there are certain responsibilities we have to fulfill, but while fulfilling those responsibilities, we can invite Him to be part of it with us and look deeply at things that have taken our time away from the Lord. Like I reduced social media time, and I need to reduce TV time. I have hidden myself behind the TV, and the Holy Spirit was talking to me about it, but I ignored Him. Nothing wrong with watching a little TV, but sitting in front of it for hours at a time is not good, when that time could be utilized to read or pray.
What has been taking your time away from spending more time with the Lord and pursuing His heart in a deep, intimate way? Have you found yourself becoming more mediocre in your walk with the Lord?
I also found that when we become mediocre in our spiritual walk, we sometimes can become mediocre in our physical health, too.
A life of discipline is needed in every area of our lives. Spiritually and physically. I have lacked it in both and need to make a choice to change and become more disciplined in my spiritual and physical life. My kids and I went on a 40-day no sugar, and man, did I feel great. I need to get off sugar again and need to get back into walking, too.
Our decision doesn’t only affect us, but those around us, our family and friends. When we are spiritually mediocre, our radar is not working properly, and we are not as helpful to our family and friends when they are seeking spiritual answers. When we are in Medicare, in our physical, we can experience our bodies not working as they should. I know those who have stayed active, and they are in their 70s and even some in their 90s, and they are doing great physically. I saw an 87-year-old missionary who looks like she is in great shape and moves like a younger person. I also saw a lady who was 98 and a street witness, and she can jump around.
If you have kept your life from being mediocre, I rejoice with you and am well pleased with you. If you have found your life in a mediocre state, please join me in making changes to pursue the Heart of God in an intimate way and get our bodies moving and eating healthy.
You are a Warrior Heart. Keep pursuing His heart in the quiet places. Keep living the story He lovingly penned. Keep running your race — steady, surrendered, and strong.
