Are we honoring the Lord like we should?
For those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed. (1 Samuel 2:30 AMPC)
I was visiting Faith Life Church in Branson, MO, and up on their stage are the words, “Those Who Honor Me I Will Honor.
Honor in the bible means to esteem, value, and treat someone with deep respect. What does it look like to honor the Lord in a way He deserves to be honored? How are we showing respect, esteeming Him, and valuing Him?
This is something to take time to sit and reevaluate our hearts, and to allow the Holy Spirit to show us whether we are truly honoring Him the way we should.
I think it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, and think we are honoring Him, but when we take the time to look deeply into our hearts, we may be surprised to see how little we’re honoring Him as we should. I also think we can grow even deeper by honoring Him.
How can we honor him more, or if we aren’t, how do we bring honor to Him? There are a few scriptures we can look at to examine our hearts.
In our daily action – So then, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31 AMPC)
With our heart and speech – These people draw near Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts hold off and are far away from Me. (Matthew 15:8 AMPC)
With our finances – Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labors] and with the first fruits of all your income; (Proverbs 3:9 AMPC)
With our bodies –19 Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, 20 You were bought with a price [purchased with a [a]preciousness and paid for, [b]made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body. ( 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 AMPC)
Does any one of these speak to your heart about where you are not honoring Him ? Honoring Him with our bodies is speaking to me. I need to get back into the habit of taking care of my body by exercising and eating healthier foods. Our bodies need to be strong and healthy to fulfill what He has called us to do. It’s also amazing how walking in discipline in our bodies goes hand in hand with discipline in our spiritual walk tool.
My husband and I chose to honor Him with our finances, even during a time in our lives when w were just scraping by: we chose to honor Him with our tithes and went without eating. Today, we are reaping the blessings of honoring Him first with our fiancee, we are more blessed today than we were a year ago. We have been able to be a blessings to others, also.
We can also honor Him by inviting Him into every area of our lives as we make decisions. Are our decisions aligning with what He called us to do for Him? We can honor Him by spending time with Him in our morning time and throughout the day by acknowledging Him.
Let’s start examining our hearts more to know how much we honor Him and how much more we may honor Him in our lives every day.
