….yeah, when the title. “Psalms 91 Doesn’t Work for Everyone” came to my heart; I felt uncomfortable displaying it, but a nudge in my spirit says to do so, for it’s true.
Psalms 91 will not work for everyone.
God desires Psalms 91, the protective prayer chapter, to work for everyone, and His word doesn’t return in a void, but He has also given us free will.
A free will to believe and receive or not to accept and reject.
Psalms 91 will not work for individuals who compromise the Word of God by saying…
…. Healing isn’t for today. What will be will be. Whatever is God’s will. God may or may not. God is trying to teach us something through this. You never know what God will do.
All those statements don’t align with what’s in His Word, the very book where we find God’s will and desire for us – His very heartbeat.
Fear will keep Psalms 91 from working in our lives.
“Fear Tolerated is Faith Contaminated” – Kenneth Copeland –
Fear is faith in something contrary to God’s Word. Fear is having more faith in sickness and destruction than in God’s Healing and protection.
Fear is having more belief in the deceiver’s lies than in the truth of God’s word.
Unbelief will keep Psalms 91 from working in our lives.
Unbelief is a form of fighting against Jesus and His angels and fighting against God and His goodness.
When one walks in unbelief, they are warring against what Jesus wants to do in their life, and instead, they are lining themselves up and working alongside the deceiver.
Unbelief puts you on the opposite side of Jesus and puts you on the same side as the enemy. It prevents Jesus from working on your behalf-rescuing you. It also removes you from the protecting arms of the Heavenly Father.
Any form of Pride or Self will prevent Psalms 91 from working in our lives.
God resists the proud and shows grace to the humble. So if He resists the proud, he won’t be helping them. He lends a helping hand to the humble.
Self is a form of living life on their own without God. God can’t help those living from a self-state mindset instead of a surrendered heart.
A humble, surrendered, pure heart opens the door for God to move upon their behalf. It’s a heart of denying self and relying on God instead.
Psalms 91:1 tells us whom it works for.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High.
Dwell meaning:
- to live or stay as a permanent resident; reside.
- to live or continue in a given condition or state: to dwell in happiness.
- to linger over, emphasize, or ponder in thought, speech, or writing (often followed by on or upon): to dwell on a particular point in an argument.
bide, exist, inhabit, reside, abode, lodge, rest, occupy, stay, establish oneself, hang out, keep house, make one’s home, pitch tent.
The one who abides with God, who keeps oneself under His wings of shadow, will experience health, protection, and deliverance.
The one who has a continuing relationship with God. One who abides in His word and is a doer of His word.
One who resists any pride and self in their own lives and chooses to trust and rely on God puts themselves under His protection – resting in His arms of Love.
Those who have surrendered their heart to Him and develop an intimate relationship with Him will experience the fullness of the promises found in Psalms 91.
He who [a]dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
2
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”
3
For He will save you from the trap of the fowler,
And from the deadly pestilence.
4
He will cover you and completely protect you with His pinions,
And under His wings you will find refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield and a wall.
5
You will not be afraid of the terror of night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6
Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction (sudden death) that lays waste at noon.
7
A thousand may fall at your side
And ten thousand at your right hand,
But danger will not come near you.
8
You will only [be a spectator as you] look on with your eyes
And witness the [divine] repayment of the wicked [as you watch safely from the shelter of the Most High].
9
Because you have made the Lord, [who is] my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10
No evil will befall you,
Nor will any plague come near your tent.
11
For He will command His angels in regard to you,
To protect and defend and guard you in all your ways [of obedience and service].
12
They will lift you up in their hands,
So that you do not [even] strike your foot against a stone.
13
You will tread upon the lion and cobra;
The young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
14
“Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him;
I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never].
15
“He will call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16
“With a long life I will satisfy him
And I will let him see My salvation.”
When you sit enthroned[a] under the shadow of Shaddai,[b]
you are hidden[c] in the strength of God Most High.
2 He’s the hope that holds me and the Stronghold to shelter me,
the only God for me, and my great confidence.
3 He will rescue you from every hidden trap of the enemy,[d]
and he will protect you from false accusation
and any deadly curse.[e]
4 His massive arms[f] are wrapped around you, protecting you.
You can run under his covering of majesty and hide.
His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm.
5 You will never worry about an attack of demonic forces at night
nor have to fear a spirit of darkness coming against you.
6 Don’t fear a thing!
Whether by night or by day, demonic danger will not trouble you,[g]
nor will the powers of evil launched against you.
7 Even in a time of disaster, with thousands and thousands being killed,
you will remain unscathed and unharmed.
8 you will be a spectator as the wicked perish in judgment,
for they will be paid back for what they have done!
9–10 When we live our lives within the shadow of God Most High,
our secret hiding place, we will always be shielded from harm.
How then could evil prevail against us or disease infect us?
11 God sends angels with special orders to protect you wherever you go,
defending you from all harm.
12 If you walk into a trap, they’ll be there for you
and keep you from stumbling.
13 You’ll even walk unharmed among the fiercest powers of darkness,[h]
trampling every one of them beneath your feet!
14 For here is what the Lord has spoken to me:
“Because you have delighted in me as my great lover,
I will greatly protect you.
I will set you in a high place, safe and secure before my face.
15 I will answer your cry for help every time you pray,
and you will find and feel my presence
even in your time of pressure and trouble.
I will be your glorious hero and give you a feast.
16 You will be satisfied with a full life and with all that I do for you.
For you will enjoy the fullness of my salvation!”
